10th week

Hello again everyone! Today is the last week of class. Comes to an end and finals are coming nearer. So, this week we studied about SAMR model: Technologies Integration in the Classroom. S stands for Substitution which is technology acts as a direct tool substitute, which no functional change. Examples, typing out the work using a word processor rather than handwriting. A stand for Augmentation is technology acts as a direct tool substitute, with functional improvement. Examples, some of the built-in tools such as the thesaurus, word content and spell check might be used. M stands for modification which means technology allows for significant task redesign. Examples, collaboratively create a story using only that allows for multimedia tools. R stands for Redefinition is technology allows for the creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable. For example, students use paper tweets concepts. SAMR models help educators infuse technology into learning and teaching.

SAMR model

After studying SAMR, we moved on to the class activity, my group presented our task first. We presented our video, question and survey. There was a little mistake in the survey because the question was given is open-ended and Miss Farah suggests we create an MCQ question. Because sometimes open-ended question the answer are all same and doesn’t make sense. So, Miss Farah gave us a chance to edit our survey and we change the question. Also, we presented the table that we fill up using the ADDIE model after designing the question and creating the video.

So, this comes to an end of the reflection. My last reflection for this semester and this subject. Hope everyone can take gain knowledge from my blog. I hope next semester, I will be writing again. Bye J

9th week

Hello out there! Hope everyone is fine. In this week’s class, I studied about ADDIE model. If you see my last two week’s blog, I have already shared about the ADDIE model. Miss Farah explains more in detail about the model in class.

Analysis phase

Also, Miss Farah shows us a video about the ADDIE model which gives a better understanding of the model. Miss Farah explains analysis and there are 4 important aspects is analysis. Which are Instructional Goals, Instructional Analysis, Learner Analysis and Learning Objectives. All 4 components are important in analyzing a work or prototype. The next phase is Design which includes Design Assessments, Choose a Course Format and Create an Instructional Strategy. All this step is important in designing the assessment. Each step should be done correctly and perfectly, so it will be easy to develop the assessment.

Design phase

To add on, Miss Farah also gave us a class activity to do based on the ADDIE model. In a group of 3, we must conduct a survey or an interview of a lecturer who has been working in Unitar for more than 2 years and has children. We must interview them about the challenges they overcome between workload and children. How are they facing challenges? And How they overcome the challenges? And we need to fill up the table given using ADDIE model. We also design the question ourselves and my other team member did the survey on Survey Monkey.

That’s all for today. Till then…. Bye J

8th week

Hello friend, Welcome! Today I’m going to share this week’s reflection. This week my class canceled so I’m going to reflect on what I did this week. I did my cognitive and testing assignments. It was a hectic week, especially with testing assignments because I need to design an exam paper that is new to me but I learned so much from designing questions. The most important element in creating an exam paper is knowing the learning objectives and learning outcomes. Only from there, you can design the question to evaluate the student’s achievement and see if you meet the learning outcome.

Moreover, I did a video for my cognitive assignment. Our assignment was to interview a group of students about the learning style they use while studying and see if they have difficulties using the style. My friends help me in taking the video. The group of people that I interviewed said they had difficulties in learning microeconomics using Virtual-linguistics Intelligence because, in microeconomics, it requires calculation and practicing. So, I suggested Logical Mathematical Intelligence. Because Logical-Mathematical Intelligence requires practicing while studying and revising. And they feel it’s suitable so they start using this learning style and they can see the improvement in remembering the subject.

this is the interview from my cognitive assignment

This week’s reflection is all about my assignment, till then Bye J

7th week

Hello everyone, how are you all doing, hope everyone is fine. Well, this week my class is canceled so I’m just going to do my reflection based on what my lecturer ask me to study. She asks us to do research on the ADDIE model.

ADDIE model

The first phase is Analysis. In an analysis, the designer classifies the learning problem, the goals and objectives, the audience’s need, existing knowledge and another related
characteristic. The analysis also considers the learning environment, any constraints, the delivery options and the timeline for the project. We must be clear on what is our learning goals and what we want.

The second phase is Design. A systematic process of specifying learning objectives. Detailed storyboards and prototypes are often made, and the look and feel, graphic design, user-interface and content are determined here. Classifying what we need into parts and analysis part by part.

The third phase is Development. The product of the content and learning materials based on the design phase. Developing the design that we have an analysis. Getting into action.

Fourth phase is Implementation. During Implementation, the plan is put into action and a producer for training the leader and teacher is developed. Materials are delivered or distributed to the student group. After delivery, the effectiveness of the training materials is evaluated.

Fifth phase is Evaluation. It is important to evaluate each step to make sure that we achieve our goals using the instructional design and materials to meet the learner's needs. Also, there are two types of evaluation, summative and formative evaluation. Summative evaluation is evaluating the learner’s outcome as well as effectiveness, of all the components of the design after the students complete the course or design. And formative evaluation is a continuing process that we do as we are working on our instructional materials in each phase of the ADDIE model.

That’s all for this reflection. Bye J

5th & 6th week

Hello viewers, this time I will be doing my reflection of my 6th-week class. Last week the 5th week, was the Deepavali holiday. I had an amazing time with my family, but I’m sad😢 it ends so fast. Hopefully have more public holidays so I could have more time to sleep. I love to sleep 😫. After the Deepavali holiday back to reality, the same routine to college every day.

this is my cousins, during Deepavali day (miss them already 😡)

Now on reflection, for this week, I studied teaching and learning models and there are many types of teaching and learning models. Which is Personal Model, Information Processing Model, Behavior Modification Model and Social Interaction Model. There are all under Family Model and under these models there are other models that link to them. Miss Farah asks each of us to explain one model and present it in class the next day. The topic I got is Social Inquiry Model which is under the Information Processing Model.   Social Inquiry Model is engaging exploration and reflection about authentic social problems or controversies which will guide students through the stages of inquiry and drawing conclusion related to social issues. Through the social Inquiry model, students ask questions, gather information and start to examine the background to important societal ideas and events. This will derive a student’s curiosity to learn new knowledge and be more interpersonal. Also, we had to post on “Padlet” about the model that we like to implement as a Mathematics teacher.

This is the end of this week’s reflection… Bye J

4th week

Hello there, for this weekly class we discussed the positive and negative factors of social media. Miss Farah asks us to think of factors regarding social media in positive and negative ways. So, each of us came up with one factor and Miss Farah wrote it down on the interactive whiteboard.

the positive factor

The factor that I told is gain knowledge because now social media has become wider which gives an opportunity to all students to do research on knowledge. Also, social media is a great place to get fast information because people will always post the latest information on social media. To add on, students or children who don’t like to read a newspaper or book, will eventually start reading and notify when they are on social media. For example, when I wanted to know the latest update about the Presidential election, I go through my social media to get the latest update.

the red points are the negative factors

The negative factors of social media, it’s always not accurately correct because some people would just put rumors on social media to hurt other people. Also, the disadvantages of social media are, there is no privacy for people. Some hackers will take advantage of the pictures and edit with nude pictures and post them on social media. It can ruin their life. This is called cyberbullying. Therefore, we must use social media wisely in a good way that also benefits others. Moving on, we also did a class activity where we had to create an infographic about “My Net Rules”. It’s a group work of three.
infographics from my group

And lastly, Miss Farah asks us to stick a paper behind our back and everyone must write their first impression towards the other person. My class only had 9 students, so it was easy to describe the person. It was a fun activity and I got to know what was my classmate's first impression on me.

my classmate's first impression towards me

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading. Till then…. BYE J

3rd week

Hi all, this week's class, my lecturer Miss Farah asks each of us to think about factors that interfere with the teaching and learning process. And she instructs everyone to write on the interactive whiteboard. The point that I wrote is less attention. In my opinion, most students don’t pay attention in class because sometimes they dislike the subject or something is distracting them. So as a teacher, they should try different teaching strategies to make the students pay attention. Examples, outdoor studies, flip classrooms, or problem-solving methods.

Factors that interfere with teaching and learning process

Other than that, Miss Farah also explained to us that there are three factors that can interfere with the communication of messages. There are environmental factors, psychological factor and personal factors. Also, we learned teaching and learning theories. The theories are Cognitivist, Behaviorist and Constructivist. Miss Farah asks us to form a group of three and each group is assigned one theory and we must simplify our explanation and write it on the interactive whiteboard. My group consists of Irma, Faiz and myself. We were assigned to explain Constructivist. Constructivist is a theory on how people make meanings in relation to the interaction between their experiences and ideas. In the classroom, teachers can encourage students to use active techniques such as experiments, real-world problem solving to create more knowledge and then to reflect on and talk about what they are doing and how their understanding is changing. By this students will be more curious in learning and expert learners.

2nd week

Hello everyone, Welcome back to my blog. This week has been hectic because my classes are so packed especially on Tuesday. I have 4 classes from 8.30am - 6.30pm non-stop without a break. It’s so tiring but I must keep up my energy until 6.30pm. Now I know my lecturers for the subject I enroll in. I’m happy that all my lecturers are easy going and helpful. In my Technology and Math education class, there are only 9 students enroll in this subject. It’s easy to remember their names and faces. My lecturer Miss Farah told us about the assignment and the first assignment is to do a blog based on our weekly reflection. So, that’s the reason why I’m writing this blog. In my opinion, writing blog gives me a way to express myself to people through writing, even though I know my grammars and sentence structure is wrong. But I’m happy that I can deliver some information to people reading my blog.

Now moving ahead on my weekly reflection. In today’s class, Miss Farah asks all of us to give examples of technology tools that could bemuse in Education. Some of us mention “Kahoot”, “Padlet”, “Brainrush” and “Quizlet” which is common to us. So, Miss Farah asks us to do research using our phone or laptop. Miss Farah encourages us to bring our laptop to class because it’s a technology course. To be honest, I was praying to not bring my laptop to classes for this semester because last semester every day I had to bring my laptop and it’s so heavy to carry behind my back, but I think I can’t escape that, I had to bring for two classes for this semester. But unfortunately, or “Thank God” my laptop had some hardware problem. I’m supposed to be sad 😢 which I am, I was feeling incomplete without my laptop, but also happy that I don’t need to bring it to college. My uncle took my laptop to his home to get it repaired, his expert in that. Hopefully, I will get it back soon.

Moving on, I also learned to use “padlet” in class. Miss Farah gives us a question to answer in the “padlet” so everyone could see their classmate’s work. The question given is to discuss the level of involvement in teaching and learning strategy. The strategy I choose is a reflection. I explain the importance of reflection in class. Now, as a student, I think doing a reflection helps students to remember what they did in class and also gives them an opportunity to open up ideas through writing. Being a student, I’m experiencing it and I would like my students to also try it too. We also did mindmap about the characteristic of a 21st-century Mathematics teacher. And we came up with lots of characteristics which, I hope, I would come up as one.
The “padlet” activity we did in class

That’s all for my 2nd week of reflection. Till then…. BYE BYE J

1st week

Hello there, Today I would like to share with you all about my first week of class. This is my 5th Semester and I have already enrolled in my major subjects which is Mathematics. On the first day of class, I met my old friends and get to know some new friends also but most of them are seniors to me. I felt excited about learning new formulas and getting to know the history of Mathematics. The lecturers are very supportive in dealing with students. I only had two classes in my first week because its “Add and Drop” week and most of the students will not be attending the class, so as lecturers. But I’m really excited to know my lecturer for the Cognitive class and Technology class. I would rather have lectures that I’m familiar with but it will also be interesting to have a new lecturer to get to know them better.

To add on, I couldn’t see my results for the last semester because the system had problems. So, my friends and I went to see the lecturer personally to know our results. I was satisfied with my results even though I didn’t get straight A’s still I pass. Also, for the first time, I had been going to the lecturer’s office every day to meet with the HOD of my faculty to get some advice on what subject to take for my further semester. So, I could get a clear direction on what to do next. Well, this week is tiring because I had to go up and down to settle a lot of stuff.

That’s all for now, wait for my next blog next week with a more interesting update. Bye for now J

Prelude about myself............??????

Hello there, welcome back to my blog. It’s been so long since I post anything. As time passed, I have also moved ahead of my studies, now I’m currently in my 2nd year in the 5th semester. I have now started my majoring in maths. At first, I had a rough time choosing my major, even though I told everyone that I will be perusing in Mathematics still I have not completely satisfied myself. So, after all the lecturing and advice from friends and family. I decide to go forward in pursuing Mathematics.

The goal I want is to fulfill my parent’s dreams and wish. They have sacrificed so much for me so as payback, I want to work hard and spent money on them. I want to buy things for them and go around the whole with them. Also, I want to do my MBA in London because I have been there before and I have always dreamt of living there. Moreover, my aim in life is to be a good and professional educator.
This is my family..when we land in London

The philosophy that defines the standard of my profession is Progressivism because I believe that education should focus on the whole child, rather than on the content. This educational philosophy stresses that students should get ideas by exploring. I prefer nurturing my students in an open environment and with objects and items with them. So, students can see new things and learn through experience. Also, students will have more interest in learning. I would like to implement this method for my students as a change in education because, during my school time, it was all textbook-based learning, I didn’t have a chance to learn outside of class. As this is the 21st century, I would like students to learn outside of the classroom and my experience.

Progressivism

That’s all for my introduction. Wait till next week for my next reflection, till then BYE…. J
